Just gotten your keys to your new home?
In the midst of renovation/moving in?
Planning for a stayover at the new place?
Last weekend, we stayed over at our new place as the renovation had finally completed. While waiting for our furnitures etc to arrive, we thought, why not bring fatty swissroll back too!
Anyway, thats not the mainpoint. Lol.
Here are some basic/不起眼/ things you won't realise its important till you need it (and I personally think you will need to prep before hand):
1) Wet wipes / magic clean wipes
You will need to clean or wipe the floor here and there- these will come useful.
2) Mop and pail
3) Rags rags and more rags
Not sure is it us but we really bought quite alot of rags - one for wiping furniture, one for kitchen table tops, one for dining table, one for Tui's paw and a few more spare ones lying around.
4) Scissors
Somehow you will need to come certain things so yea, a scissors will come in handy.
5) Pen
Signing of invoices/ writting down groceries checklist aiya wont hurt to have one pen in the house. Le hubz needed it and asked if i have one tt time, i have tons! Cos i carry the whole pencil case everywhere.
6) Trolley
This is one thing we didnt prepare but heng our neighbour has it. Else most of the time you'll need to lug the things up and down.
7) Cups
We were so qi liang cause we thought cups are not important. But when we bought a 1.5l of sprite, its quite gross to drink directly from the bottle if you are sharing or you plan to survive on that for one two days. Therefore le hubz came up with this idea - he cut the 500ml coke bottle he used before and made it into a cup. Hahaha which was very useful!
8) Utensils
Lol! Somebody say its not important hor.. if you are thinking.. aiya can get those disposal ones when you dabao food ma. Yes, you are right. BUT WHAT IF YOU FORGOT?!
because thats what i did hahahhaha. I ta bao-ed Nasi lemak and walked all the way back before realising i forgot to take cutlery (and im already at my block downstairs). Luckily its nasi lemak and not ban mian else idk how is he going to eat man...
9) Toilet paper
Need not to say right. Unless you want to use your socks or the rags to clean lor.
10) Tool box
Every house, no, is everyman needs to own a tool box hahaha (not applicable to me cause i have no idea how to use and their names except for hammer). If you have d.i.y furnitures e.g those from Ikea you cannot dont have them. But please hor, dont buy those cheap cheap one! 便宜没好货. Le hubz bought one $8.50 or something and it went out of shape after setting up half a shelve. 😑
11) Trash bag/ many many plastic bag
Cant remember how many bags of rubbish we threw away in that 2 days sia. Damm kuazhang. Oh that being said, its good to have a basic rubbin bin at home too. Anyway if you buy those groceries sure will have tons of plastic bags one haha. Don't throw them right away!!
12) Towels
You will need to bath right!!! Ahbo how to dry yourself? Air dry???
13) Toiletries: Shampoo/body wash/ facial wash/ tooth brush and toothpaste
No need to explain unless you usually bath with water only
14) Batteries (optional)
For clocks or things that need to be battery operated.
15) 3M tapes and hooks
We went to buy a few times because there are really many things to hook esp if you want to dry your rags
16) Kettle
We also thought this is not really a necessity until....
When you are freaking hungry, you have cup noodles and tap water but NO HOT WATER. So yah. Pls. Just get one. Giant sell very cheap only $9.90 for a basic one and $19.90 for a chio one. We bought the chio-er one of course. #totallyworthit
17) Handsoap
If you dont want to waste your shampoo/body wash everytime you dirty your hands. Haha we bought one dettol one very nice smell 3 bottles for i forgot how much cause not i buy one. Lol!
18) Basic pot
We needed that to boil meat for fatty tui
19) Mama lemon
To wash the pots and utensils yo.
20) Floor detergent
Forgot to add in this. Hahaha it comes with the mop and pail. One of the first few things we buy when we just gotten our keys.
21) Broom and dustpan
Okay this too!
22) Doormat
It can get really slippery after you come out of the toilet. Thankful that we had a free door mat when we buy our carpet. And mama gave us one too!
23) If you are staying over...
Best to standby some "
blanket" cos it can get a lil chilly at night (even without aircon!). Tips: go ikea!! We bought 3 throws at $2.90 each only. Super useful. We use it to cover our sofa~
24) Instant food
This one damn nice. Dont say i never share!
Magee/ instant mash potato/ instant pasta whatever it is, its good to have food. Esp if you are living at some where that is not accessible to food OR you are as lazy as my sis. :X
25) Packet drinks
This one deplete super fast. Lol. When people come you can at least treat them a drink. Tio bo?
26) HP Charger!
No comp no tv no internet, the least you need is to have a workable mobile phone. Not to mention all the deliveryman will start calling you to double confirm delivery! Rmb to set your phone on NON-SILENT MODE. I am too use to be on total silent mode so I missed a few calls. opps.
End of my list for now. Hope it gets you prepared and avoid the trouble to go out and buy at the last minute.
Of course, each household will have different needs and it also depends on your house's readiness - where is it fully renovated and functional or not.
