Volunteering in a whole new way

Last Sunday wasnt a really proper packwalk like usual. Because some of us came down at different timing due to personal commitments.

Tui & gang and junior etc didnt get to go out.. I happily ran into dog park, but cant see the fat shadow of my bf.. only to know that he is still in the kennel.. But we had new friends joining us at the dog park!

Remy and robin (ECP pups) came out for walk for the first time.. This two boys seemed really happy and relax. Naughty Remy so playful..

And then we had Jeanine and her family - her husband, Cam (the cutest baby which i have ever seen!Happy pill), Miller and Indie. its an eye opening day to see the two super big dogs from Africa @.@
Cam and Jiahui
finally met him!
Awwwwww
Cam needs a break

Left is Indie, right is Miller

When i was posing with them, I couldnt believe Im actually so close to a dog whose head is bigger than mine :O

Louis boy was one of the special guest too. Euguene brought bunbun over, the walked all the way from punggol to pet movers!!

The rest (no friend lynn, weijie, nikki, hongwee and ann?) came back not long after. I cant exactly rmb ah because very chaotic.

There was this family, young parents abt early 30s with two daughter n a son came in with 2 of their goldies.. Miller walk past the mum, and her expression immediately changed- big dog only what! why give that face as if miller is gg to chew u up :/ I told her the dog wont bite, nth to be scared of.

While we were sitting down to chill, suddenly we heard a pup screaming its lungs out (you know when dogs get into fight the weaker one will always scream and the scream is very chilly and heart breaking..), my eyes scanned around the whole area - for one moment I thought our dog had went to attack another. But there is the baby retriever (which was very bubbly and sweet), pinned down on the ground and screaming, it managed to breakfree from the bigger retriever and it ran like a mad dog towards our direction, crashed into humans and chairs and look super traumatised....
I cannot describe how i exactly feel at that moment. The next thing I saw, make my legs almost become jelly..
The pup's mouth was full of blood!!! seriously i had enough of these bloody dramas, my heart cannot take it.
The female owner (the mother) came over looking helpless while the rest of us stay rooted to the ground, i think none of us had the time to react...

covered in a towel, the family went back to a corner to clean up the pup. A part of me was relieve that it happened between their own dogs, I couldnt imagine if its one of ours , and we can bid goodbye to it.
But i hope all the best for the little dog :((

After the hoo-haa, minghui came back and the both of us went to ALL ( Animal lovers league) to try out while the rest bring our dogs back for a bath.

This dog was grinning at me for like 2-5 mins, I have to take a pic!
We spent a good 10-15 mins stoning around while waiting for task to be given.. Meanwhile, Minghui became a Pee-pole for the dogs, we were chatting half way, when a guy behind us suddenly laugh out loud, we looked down and realise one of the dog had happily walk over and pee-ed at Mh's feet.. Teva shoes leh!!
I CANT STOP LAUGHING UNGLAMLY .....!!
Thats like the funniest thing that happened in the day.

mh want this

 Eh,this pic very artistic hor?

Super chio hair, ALL got alot of super star, hollywoody dogs

See! Even its 眼神so professional..

Ok, back to our tasks:

1. Our first task was to walk the dogs, it wAs quite different as the regular will pass the vollies dogs instead of the vollies collecting the dog themselves. There was no packwalk. just OTOT.
Minghui was given a dog call HengHeng, which was very energetic and big in size and Heng ah, i wasnt the one who walk him because I would have tripped and fall.Mh so strong already gg to lose her balance when heng heng pull..  I was assigned to walk hengheng's gf Sonia. Christine( the IC) told me sonia abit sot one. But well, she is very nice to walk, same energy like Yenyen they all.
The walk supposingly last for 10 mins due to the rain, and "ji lang man yi xia" the both of us walked the dogs in the rain until we are drenched. We walked abit further because 10 min is really too short. And one thing i realised is that the people who walk the dogs dont pick up poop. The road outside is full if shit, literally.

A super blur pic... with sonia and heng heng

2. Task 2, helped out with scooping rice (which i think its quite fun).

3. Task 3, after the dogs have finished eating, we will need to clean the area outside, Minghui use spray, I use scrapper. Tag-team.

3. Task 4. Wash the bowls. The sink got choked and we spent 10 mins waiting for the water to be drained before we can continue. And I realised, why didnt we scoop the water out ourselves? The drain is just below our feet :/ Oh... WOLS. By the time we do it, the water drained finish liao.

4. Task 5. Use a scrapper to scrap away the water after they have finish washing the kennels. It was quite un-organised at this part because some kennels we can go in, some cannot, some got dogs inside and we cant go in, some can. So we just hopped about to scrap which ever that is available.. And each dog have a plastic bed of their own, very cute. When i put down their bed, they will automatically walk over and lie on it.

I was very stunned when Christine told me she has been in ALL for 7 years!! 7 leh!!! she started when she was 16 yr old. Seriously, it is very rare to see youngster who are willingly to sacrifice their youth and play time for charity work. let alone for a whole of 7 years.. I really salute her...
On a side note, I think she is over whelmed with chores, if only they could recruit vollies on a more regular and organised basis, her load will be lighter. Because apart from her, there seems like no one else know exactly what to do.. hmmm..

Trying out at other shelter allows me to have a fuller picture of what different types of volunteering work available. Some shelter focus on packwalk (which is us), some just need people to go there sit down hug the dogs and nua, some requires people to clean the kennels, some need ppl to feed the dogs etc.

Actually if you are scared of dogs/cats but want to help, there are still alot of ways:
- Help out at adoption drive by selling merchandise, tend the booths
- Help in rehoming dogs, and follow up after the dogs are adopted
- Help in transporting dogs
- Help in fostering dog (But make sure your family members are ok with it)
- Help in writing for their websites (but your english cannot be like me, this is also why im only writing here)
- Help to design posters etc for PR
- Help by staying at home and use FB to share those adoption links, pages, photos
- Help by educating people around you of responsible pet ownership and stop discriminating mongrels.

Alot la, go google urself if you are keen to know more.
Shall stop here liao. BYE!
